Eat Local Memphis: Viva la Deli Mexicana – Las Tortugas Edition

Eat Local Memphis: Viva la Deli Mexicana – Las Tortugas Edition

Since we both live in Midtown and work closer to Downtown, a trip out East gave us a bunch of different lunch opportunities. Fortunately we both come from the same school of thought. What school? See my Instagram post from lunch:

Shelves empty at Lifeblood

Lifeblood is in critical need of both blood and platelet donors.

The warmer months are traditionally low donation times, and this year is no exception.

“We have depleted our inventory of O+ units, and all other types are low,” said Jennifer Balink, vice president of donor relations for Lifeblood. “We need everyone to get involved today; hundreds of patients’ lives depend on volunteer blood donors.”

In addition to being out of whole blood units, Lifeblood is also in need of platelet donors.

(WMC-TV) – The Humane Society is hosting a special camp this summer to teach kids how to speak up for animals.

“At the Humane Society of Memphis & Shelby County, we believe that you are never too young to make a difference,” said Kerry Sneed, the group’s community outreach and humane education manager. “Our Pet Cadets Summer Camp will be an excellent opportunity for children to learn how to help animals while having fun and making friends at the same time.”

Citizens unite to build Amanda Price Memorial Park

Citizens unite to build Amanda Price Memorial Park

Leaders of New Albany, MS have created a plan to build a memorial park to honor a beloved wife, mother and community servant killed in an attempted home invasion. Amanda Price, 31, speech pathologist for New Albany public schools and wife of football coach Ron Price, was shot and killed on December 5, 2011.

The accused gunman, 20 year old Craig Baker, lived in a trailer park within walking distance of the Price home. New Albany City Councilman Johnny Anderson has proposed buying the seven acre trailer park property and transforming it into the Amanda Price Memorial Park.
