Video/speaker system on greenway installed to deter crime

MEMPHIS, TN- (WMC-TV) - "Welcome to the Germantown Greenway. For your protection, this parking lot is being recorded by video cameras."

This is what Germantown Greenway visitors hear upon entering the trail system. The goal of the new greeting is to reassure runners, walkers, and cyclists that they are safe.

The speaker within the camera allows people leaving their car behind to relax knowing that there is someone watching, but it also serves as a warning to those looking to stir up trouble.

The camera/speaker system serves as an interactive way of communicating that might even catch you off guard if you did not know it was there.

"I feel pretty safe. In the mornings, I wear my lights and blinkers. I don't have earphones in, so I'm real aware of what's around me," said cyclist Michael Block.

While Block appreciates the extra surveillance, he is not convinced it will prevent crime.

Pam McKelvy finishes chemotherapy in her battle with breast cancer

Pam McKelvy is finished with chemotherapy.

MEMPHIS, TN- (WMC-TV) – The journey continues for one of our own, and it is good news for Pam McKelvy. She is finished with chemotherapy.

And at a time when breast cancer is at the forefront because of Angelina Jolie, Pam updates her own story.

She went public with her battle with breast cancer last February, after a double mastectomy, because there are thousands of women in the Mid-South who share the struggle.

Pam's hope is that her story can inspire those women, and convince others to get tested.

Dr. Michael Magee is a breast cancer specialist over clinical trials at the Boston-Baskin Cancer Foundation in Germantown and Southaven. He recommended four rounds of chemotherapy for Pam.

Chemo is a cocktail of two or more drugs. For Pam, they were Taxotere and Cytoxan. Without chemo, Pam's risk factor was above 80%.
