Statements outline Germantown 911's response after Wright hang-up call

By Kontji Anthony - bio | email

GERMANTOWN, TN (WMC-TV) - New details are surfacing about the mysterious 911 hang-up made from the cell phone of former NBA player Lorenzen Wright on the night he was murdered.  The details come from statements given by Germantown 911 dispatchers and supervisors that were released to the public Monday.

From the beginning we've known Germantown dispatchers were unable to plot the location of Wright's 911 hang-up, but we've had trouble understanding the breakdown in the system, until now.

The 911 call was a hang up call, with no voice - only the sound of possible gun shots.

Statements from dispatchers that were on duty July 19, when a call from Wright's cell phone came in to 911 dispatch at 12:05 a.m, clarify what happened afterward.

Germantown leader talks about how Wright 911 call was handled

By Jason Miles - bio | email

MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - An ad campaign sponsored by the Shelby County board that oversees 911 stresses that simply knowing who to call is not always enough because a call from your cell phone does not provide and address.

Dispatchers are often left to figure out the location of the call.  That is especially true when there is no one on the other end.

Overnight temp a record for August 1, among the hottest ever

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Increasingly hot weather has set a record in Memphis.

The National Weather Service says the overnight minimum temperature at midnight Monday at Memphis International Airport was 82 degrees, breaking a record for the date of 80 set in 1980.

It was also the ninth-warmest overnight low ever for Memphis in records that date to 1872 and was the warmest overnight low since Aug. 24, 1982.

By Jamel Major - bio | email

GERMANTOWN, TN (WMC-TV) - Just weeks before the start of the school year, many area high school football teams are holding practices.

When it gets hot, football players at Germantown High School know they have to be extra careful.

"It wears on your body for sure," said Justin Kemp, a player on the team.

Friday was the first scheduled scrimmage of the year for the football team.  But at gametime, the temperature outside felt like 112 degrees - too hot, according to trainer Drew Bombardiere.

"We can practice as long as it's not over 104," he said. "We cannot practice indoors or in the gym if they don't have AC.
