According to a recent study released by the U.S. Census Bureau, a bachelor’s degree can add an average of $23,000 to an individual’s income.  The Union University BSOL program allows students the opportunity to increase their earning potential while continuing to work. The Union University campus in Germantown, Tennessee is now accepting applications for the Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership degree completion program which will begin on August 12, 2010.  In this program, adult students with an associate’s degree (or 60 hours of college credit) can complete a bachelor’s degree in as little as eighteen (18) months attending class one evening a week.  Financial aid is available for the program.

Construction could slow drivers

Construction begins near Poplar Avenue and New Riverdale Road starting Monday, June 21.

Crews will be performing maintenance and repairs to a drainage structure near the roadway.  The work is expected to be completed by Friday, June 25.

July 4 fireworks extravaganza to be held at Exeter Park

A fireworks extravaganza will be held Sunday, July 4 at Municipal Park on Exeter Road.

The free event will feature musical entertainment, games, moon bounces and crafts in the early evening, followed by a fireworks display.

Germantown United Methodist hosts "55 Alive" driver safety program"

Germantown United Methodist Church and AARP will present the “55 Alive Driver Safety Program,” an instructional defensive driving course for people age 55+ on Monday and Tuesday, June 28 & 29, 2010 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

The class will meet in Room 339 (Fellowship Forum classroom) in the Ministry Center, and the cost is $12 for AARP members ($14 for non-members) payable to AARP. 

Successful completion entitles participants to a discount on their auto insurance premiums for three years. Call Geoff Pratt at (901) 755-4091 to register. This class will be closed at 30 participants, so sign up soon.

Germantown aldermen ignore residents' objections on new retirement community

The Germantown Board of Mayor and Aldermen approved an outline plan for a new senior living facility.

Formation Development Group of Georgia plans on building 182 units on almost seven acres of wooded property east of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church at Poplar and Kimbrough.

Firehouse Subs Foundation donates to Germantown Fire Department

After a year collecting donations and raising funds to help the Germantown Fire Department, Germantown Firehouse Subs franchisee Jim Maxwell, along with the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation, have donated $11,500 worth of equipment to the town’s fire department.

Germantown in-fill project is host for Vesta

The Memphis Area Home Builders Association is trying a new tact — or perhaps new tract — for this year’s Vesta event in the face of a trying economy and depressed home sales.

What’s significantly different with this year’s show is the location — an infill site in the heart of Germantown at Neshoba and Cordova Roads.
