Saddle Creek art show helps Le Bonheur | Arts & Culture
Title (Max 100 Characters)
More than two dozen area artists will be showing and selling their work on the sidewalk at The Shops of Saddle Creek, Friday, June 15 and Saturday, June 16.
They will also be drawing on the sidewalk: in chalk, just like Dick Van Dyke in “Mary Poppins” (chim-chim-a-ree!) to benefit Le Bonheur Children's Hospital.
Most shopping malls might frown on that, but Germantown’s Saddle Creek is thrilled to provide the canvas, or in this case, sidewalk, because the artists will be taking chalk in hand for a very good cause: Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital.
The public will be invited to vote for their favorite sidewalk chalk-drawings, at $1 per vote. The funds raised will benefit Le Bonheur. The Shops of Saddle Creek will award prizes to the 3 artists who accumulate the most votes (i.e., raise the most money for Memphis’ venerable children’s hospital).
Le Bonheur was chosen to be the recipient of the event’s proceeds because of the hospital’s support for locally produced art. The hospital has collected a wide variety of work by local artists and has fully incorporated it in the design of their new building.
Art on the Sidewalk starts Friday June 15, the hours on opening day are noon to 9 p.m.; on Saturday, June 16, the show will run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Kids will also have a chance to draw on the sidewalk, and participate in other fun art activities. What else could one want? How about food trucks? YOLO and Mark’s Grill will be there. Plus, there will be lots of special offers from the merchants at Saddle Creek (think: sales on Father’s Day gift items and more).
Art on the Sidewalk will take place at the Shops of Saddle Creek (North: where The Apple Store, Chico’s and Apothecary are located), on West Farmington Blvd., between Poplar Ave. and South Germantown Rd., Friday and Saturday June 15 and 16. The event is being staged by ArtWorks Foundation; the people who bring you WinterArts.
