Staff Review: A delicious date night in Cordova | Arts & Culture

Those driving down N. Germantown Parkway might notice a sparkling white “grand opening” sign for a new Ethiopian restaurant in Cordova. It is actually simply called Ethiopian Restaurant.
My husband and I were looking for something fun and interesting to try recently. After driving around Cordova for a while, we decided to just pull over at Humdingers for a bite to eat. Well, before getting out of the car, I noticed something new. There was an Ethiopian restaurant a few doors down. And they were installing their grand opening sign at that very moment. I was not sure if the place was actually open for business, but I decided we had to go for it!
We walked in, and they were indeed open for business. The place was quiet, clean, and very neat. The server greeted us with a smile, and explained the menu to my husband and I. This was our first time ever having Ethiopian food, so we were excited to see what it was like.
The menu had a variety of options. So whether you are a vegetarian, or a meat lover like myself - there is something there for you. I got the Zizil Tibs for $12.99. It is described as savory beef cubes sautéed with onion, jalapeno pepper, and Ethiopian special seasonings and spices.
My husband got Doro Wot for $12.99. It’s described as spicy sauce made from chicken, onion, garlic, berbere, ginger, and spiced butter topped with hard boiled egg.
The experience was very different from many restaurants. The food was presented to my husband and I on two huge plates. One for our entrees, and another for the bread.
The bread was served chilled and rolled into a cinnamon stick like shape – except it was super sized! The bread had a very similar taste to buttermilk bread, and it went great with the food.
The server offered us eating utensils, but traditionally the food is supposed to be eaten without them. You are supposed to tear off pieces of bread and use them to pick up your other food. Hence the reason we received a lot of bread. And of course - we ate it all.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this place. The food was amazing, and the prices were very affordable. The service was great as well. If you are ever out in Cordova looking for something to do, go ahead and give it a try.
