(WMC-TV) – A new hair salon is opening in Germantown, but you won’t be able to get your hair cut or dyed there.

Instead, as its name suggests, The BlowOut will only offer washes and hair styling.

Officials are seeking public input as Germantown embarks on a plan for economic prosperity.  Citizens are invited to visit Open City Hall to share opinions about priorities for the City's economic development strategy. 

Economic development includes how our city grows and develops, and how it attracts investment as well as tourism. Three of the options being considered for reaching that goal are:

  • Innovation: Attracting and retaining companies by promoting innovation
  • Tourism and Meetings: Building tourism and meetings
  • Shopping and Entertainment: Focus on shopping and entertainment

Cathy Faust, Shelby County Extension Director, is the presenter for the “Mastering Your Finances/Building Wealth workshop offered at the Parkway Village Memphis Public Library & Information Center branch on Tuesday, May 22 at 1 pm. Faust will show attendees ways to make their money stretch when it’s “Too Much Month at The End of Your Money.” 

The workshop is part of the UT Shelby County Extension services to Tennesseans to help improve the quality of life. UT Extension offers a host of programs to Tennesseans from increasing urbanization to increasing concern for environmental sustainability.

St. Jude Memphis Half Marathon sells out in record time

General registration for the St. Jude Memphis Half Marathon has sold out in record time, but there’s another option for runners interested in participating in the event on Saturday, Dec. 1. This year’s sell-out marks a new record date for the St. Jude Memphis Half Marathon compared to last year when the race sold-out July 15.

Limited spots are still available for participants who also sign up as a St. Jude Hero and commit to raise at least $500 to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, one of the world’s premier centers for the research and treatment of pediatric cancer and other deadly childhood diseases.

Orange Mound couple partners with Memphis business to help community

Rev. Reginald J. and Mrs. Mary Tucker have hearts of gold and are getting positive results in the Orange Mound community.

They work with underprivileged youth in the neighborhood and help them to be successful.

Shelby Systems of Memphis has been partnering with the Tucker's for the past 2 years.

Through their partnership, they've been able to build a new computer lab for them.

The lab was competed last month.
