HP Touchpad frenzy in Memphis

HP Touchpad frenzy in Memphis

If you drove by the Best Buy on Winchester at 11 a.m. on Sunday, you might have seen a line and wondered if there was a new gadget released. It wasn't a release sale, but a clearance sale.

The HP Touchpad went on clearance over the weekend for $99 for a 16mb Touchpad and $149 for a 32mb Touchpad. They didn't last long and on Sunday, Best Buy decided to put their stock up for sale, insteading of shipping the touchpads back to HP.

Walmart gobbles up remaining Yarnell's ice cream

Walmart gobbles up remaining Yarnell's ice cream

Mid-Southerner's mourned the closing of Yarnell's Ice Cream Company back in June, but dessert lovers may still be able to get their hands on the last of the treats the company churned out.

Here's the scoop (sorry, I couldn't resist) from Arkansas Business:

A spokeswoman for the company, Natalie Ghidotti, confirms to Whispers that the remaining ice cream has been sold to Wal-Mart Stores Inc., but exactly when and where it will be available to the public isn’t clear. Wal-Mart hasn’t responded to our request for more information.

Website helps consumers file credit card complaints

Website helps consumers file credit card complaints

In a move to protect consumers, the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) will try to make sure the financial products and services market is fair, transparent and competitive.

As of July 21, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau offers a one-stop place for credit card holders to resolve complaints they may have with a credit card issuer.

The agency's new Web-based Consumer Response Center allows credit card holders file complaints online or via a toll-free number.

Created under the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act of 2010, the new agency will serve as "a cop on the beat” to enforce the laws on credit cards, mortgages, student loans, prepaid cards, and other kinds of financial products and services, according to the website.

Bittersweet Border's bookstore sale

Bittersweet Border's bookstore sale

I went into Border's bookstore in East Memphis for what may be the last time, Thursday. The usual relaxing feel of the bookstore was gone, replaced by a sad quiteness, and and bright "sale" signs plastered everywhere.

What helped to ease my saddness, to some extent, were the bargin prices on everything in the store. The discounts range from 25 percent to 50 percent off.

Pilots returns to Memphis after worldwide flight

With a hero's welcome, Chinese entrepreneur and pilot Wei Chen landed on Memphis soil Friday afternoon after a 69 day flight around the globe.

Chen greeted a cheering crowd of family, friends, and city leaders.

His journey began last May.It was a 40 stop world flight highlighting Memphis and St. Jude.

The Memphis and Shelby County mayor's were there to welcome him.

Chen says he's no hero; he just has a supportive community that pushed him to action.

His family was presented with a brand new SUV from Infiniti of Memphis to conclude his homecoming.
