Wallet stolen? Do this now!

Wallet stolen? Do this now!

(WMC-TV) - I can't emphasize enough how consumers should consider exclusively using credit cards to buy stuff, then pay off the balances immediately.

Under federal law, you're never liable for more than $50 of any disputed charge on your credit card. Most card-issuers offer zero liability now to attract customers. You can't count on that kind of protection if your debit card or cash is stolen.

Stolen Germantown gun used in Memphis shooting

Stolen Germantown gun used in Memphis shooting

(WMC-TV) – A pistol traced to Germantown was used during the shooting of a robbery victim earlier this month, according to Memphis police.

However, it wasn’t the stolen gun that helped police solve the crime. Instead, returning to the scene of a crime landed the accused gunman behind bars Tuesday, according to Memphis police.

Investigators say Cedric Taylor and an accomplice robbed and shot a woman at the intersection of Jackson and Orchi on June 20.

The men demanded the woman’s purse, but she refused and a struggle ensued, according to court records. The men eventually got the purse from the victim who tried to run away, investigators said. However, according to police, she was shot once in the buttocks as she tried to flee.

Scam on Facebook steals debit card numbers

Scam on Facebook steals debit card numbers

(WMC-TV) - My good friends at the Better Business Bureau and FraudAvengers are begging you. They're pleading with you.

Don't fall for a debit card discount offer on Facebook.

Both watchdog groups have warned us about an unsolicited offer on Facebook pages. The offer:  20 percent cash back if people link their debit cards to their Facebook pages.

I know, I know. Sounds insane, right?

In a new initiative, known as Operation 30, Operation Broken Silence is looking for 1,100 Memphians to raise $30 each from December to the end of January.
