Accused crooks linked to crimes across 5 counties

A pair of Somerville men are facing charges for recnt thefts in Germantown.

George Whittemore and Steve Hall, Jr., are each facing four counts of theft and will likely face other charges in Fayette, Hardeman, Haywood, Tipton and Shelby counties.

The men were taken into custody recently in connection to crimes in Fayette County.

"Currently Whittemore is being held in the Hardeman County Correctional Facility and Hall, Jr. is being held in the Fayette County Correctional Jail," said a representative from the Tipton County Sheriff's Office.

Germantown police want the public’s help finding the man they say burglarized two vehicles, swiped a pair of purses and credit cards.

“Two vehicles were broken into and purses were stolen in the 2300 block of Germantown Rd., April 28,” said Capt. Mike Griffus. “The suspect was photographed while using one of the stolen credit cards a short time later at a gas station in the 7600 block of Poplar Ave.”

The man was seen driving a light blue or silver Toyota Rav 4.

A number of financial and commercial institutions are informing customers that they have suffered a breach of customers’ privacy in what is believed to be one of the most widespread cases in history, according to Reuters News Agency.

Among those affected are clients of Citigroup and other large U.S. companies, including Walgreens, TiVo, Capital One, Hilton Hotel Group, Target, teleshopping company HSN, several of the nation's largest banks, as well as millions of college-bound students who accessed College Board, which administers SAT admissions exams.
