Congenital Heart Disease is considered to be the most common birth defect, and is a leading cause of birth-defect related deaths worldwide.

Despite the fact that CHD affects approximately 1.8 millions families in the U.S., a relatively small amount of funding is currently available for parent/patient educational services, research, and support.

Adult Greek Language Class begins tonight

Adult Greek Language Class begins tonight

The dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. comes alive in an adult Greek class that begins on his national holiday today.

Have you ever thought of learning the Greek language and some Greek culture as well? You have a chance to tonight at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Memphis. Retired Priest Father Nicholas Vieron is beginning his Adult Greek tonight in the church hall at Sam Cooper and Highland in Memphis.

Father Vieron has been teaching his adult greek class for 40 years and always begins on Martin Luther King Day. Vieron is one of a few white ministers left from the 1968 struggle who manifested efforts for social justice led by the late Rabbi James Wax.

It's a 14 week course that meets once a week at the church

Kroger offers 750 flu shots during clinic

Kroger offers 750 flu shots during clinic

With more than a dozen deaths in Arkansas and widespread cases reported in Tennessee and Mississippi, it's not too late to get a flu shot.

Six Mid-South-area Kroger locations hosted a flu super clinic Thursday.

As far as health goes, Andy Daltroff doesn't want his luck to run out.

"I just figured it was better safe than sorry at this point," said Daltroff.

Especially since he knows people who've already had bouts with this year's flu.

"I've got about 30 guys working for me and I had one out last week. He said he was wanting to come back to work a little early. I said, no, I don't want you in the hospital. He said, he already went. There was a 12 to 15 hour wait," said Daltroff.

Doctors said the season may not have hit its peak yet.

The Shelby County Health Department has been suggesting the flu shot for months.

Even if you don’t have a sweater yet, shopping for one is half the fun!

The 5k run starts at 11 a.m. at Shelby Farms.

There is even more fun to be had than just making fun of your friend’s choice of attire.  There will be awards for best real mustache, best fake mustache, best beard, worst sweater, and of course, best sweater.

Adult beverages will be available for the adults after the race.  But don’t worry, the kiddos are welcome too!  There will be hot chocolate and a sledding hill awaiting them at the finish line.

Included in registration is a Christmas hat, mustache, and an Ugly Christmas Sweater pint glass.
