No bad eggs in Germantown

A massive egg recall issued Monday does not affect Germantown retailers.  Millions of rotten eggs linked to salmonella have sickened hundreds of people nationwide.  Now Wright County Egg, the Iowa company associated with the contamination, has increased its voluntary recall to 380 million eggs adding to the recall announced last week.

A manager at the Kroger at Poplar & Exeter in Germantown confirms no recalled eggs were sold at their store.  The dairy manager says their eggs come from Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee.  Managers at Schnucks on Farmington and the Walgreens at Farmington & Germantown Parkway also say they do not contract with the Iowa company that produced the contaminated eggs. The Germantown Target at Poplar and Forest-Hill Irene just began selling groceries in July.  A manager there says they don't have any of the recall

Vet discusses dangers of canine heat stroke

The summer heat has set in, which means pet owners need to take precautions to ensure their dogs do not suffer from heat stroke.

According to Dr. Carr Kelsey of the Kelsey Canine Medical Center in Collierville, dogs struggle with heat just as much as humans. They can suffer from heat stroke and heat exhaustion in just a short period of time.

Dogs already have a higher normal body temperature than humans of around 101.5°F. Unlike people, dogs have very limited sweat glands located in the pads of their paws. These glands can not sufficiently cool the dog off, which is why they also pant.
