Home invasion suspect claims to be tree trimmer | News
(WMC-TV) - An Action News 5 employee says beware of a man claiming to be a tree trimmer. He surprised her inside her home near the Memphis-Germantown line.
Stephanie Healy, who works as a digital producer nights and weekends, says she was in her bathroom when she heard a man's voice asking if anyone was home.
Healy says she was in her bathroom on the phone and only partially clothed Monday afternoon when a man walked through an unlocked back door.
"He says 'Hello, hello?' And then he goes over and tries opening the door to the living room," said Healy recalling the home invasion. "This guy walked right toward me."
Healy, who was home alone with her two cats, pretended to have a gun and kept her friend on the phone.
"I had her on speaker and was like, "Oh my God, I can't believe this is happening,' " she said.
Healy says the suspect told her he was there to trim trees and even provided a company name, Unlimited Tree Service. There is a listing for the company on Google, but no address.
"I got his first name, but it was only his first name – which I thought was very unusual," she said.
She told police, who dusted for fingerprints inside the house, that the man left with two others in a white pick-up truck with no tree-trimming equipment in the back.
"Stuff could have happened to me ... I don't even want to dwell on that because it's so scary," she said.
A contractor across the street said it sounded like the suspect's pickup truck had no muffler.
