How to shield your smart phone from hacking

How to shield your smart phone from hacking

Cyber-criminals can hack your smart phone just like they'd hack your computer.

A spokesperson for ProtectMyID.com, an identity protection service sold by credit bureau Experian, said one in every seven of those hackers is a friend or relative of their victims. They call that "friendly fraud."

Doesn't sound very friendly to me.

These are user-friendly, though. They are ProtectMyID.com's tips to prevent smart phone hacking:

* Password protect your phone with a unique password. Use different passwords for each online account. The Secret Service recommends passwords with at least eight characters, mixing letters, numbers, symbols and cases.

* When finished, log out of applications that automatically access payment information.

(WMC-TV) - County Mayor Mark Luttrell and Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam are visiting Tokyo, Japan this week, exploring new business opportunities for Shelby County as well as the entire state of Tennessee.

The governor and mayor were joined by members of the Greater Memphis Chamber and 60 other state and local business officials.

“It’s been an exciting week,” said Mayor Luttrell.  “We’ve met with the CEOs of Mitsubishi Electric, Mitsubishi Chemical, Brother Industries, Sharp and other businesses. Our goal is to establish new relationships and encourage more companies to locate in our community,” he added.

In 2011, Mitsubishi broke ground on a new transformer manufacturing plant in Memphis, which should create approximately 300 full-time jobs.  The plant will also create opportunities for subcontractors.

Three sent to hospital after shopping center carbon monoxide leak

(WMC-TV) - A Germantown shopping center was evacuated Wednesday afternoon and three people were taken to the hospital due to a carbon monoxide leak.

The problem was reported by someone at Baskin Robbins, which is one of the shops housed in the complex.

Firefighters responded to a report that a group of people in the same building all felt ill.

"Turned out to be a carbon monoxide leak in the building," said Germantown Fire Department Fire Chief John Selberg. "We ended up transporting three to the hospital, had them checked out."

Fire Chief Selberg said the source of the leak was a water heater located behind the Chili's restaurant. Carbon monoxide was spewing from the heater and was sucked inside by air conditioning units.

Nine businesses were evacuated due to the leak.

"It was up in the 200 parts per million range, which is considered pretty high for CO," said Selberg. "We'll get it down to virtually nothing before we leave."
