Students ready to present Seussical Jr. production

As Horton says, ”A person's a person, no matter how small” and some of the smallest members of the Germantown community are pouring themselves in to an amazing production you need to see.

Dozens of students from Riverdale Elementary will present Seussical Jr. on Thursday, May 9,  Friday, May 10, and Saturday, May 11.  The shows start at 7 p.m. each night.

It’s going to be a great, visual, and spectacular show. The kids, teachers, and parents helped put together the set and you can just how colorful and visual this show will be.

Memphians to attempt in breaking 'cloth diaper change' world record

Cloth diapers have come a long way in the past decade. Now, Memphians and other people worldwide will participate The Great Cloth Diaper Change event serves to raise awareness of cloth diapering.

Over the Moon Diapers, the Memphis area’s first and only dedicated cloth diaper store, has joined forces with the nonprofit Real Diaper Association to organize in the third annual Great Cloth Diaper Change international event taking place two days before Earth Day on Saturday, April 20, 2013. 

This event is being held at Germantown Presbyterian Church in Warren Hall, 2363 Germantown Road South, Germantown TN 38138.  The event is from 10 a.m. until noon and the official world record diaper change is happening at exactly 11 a.m.

Help Greg Graber "ROCK" through his ultra-marathon and support Lausanne

Mr. Greg Graber is the Head of the Middle School at Lausanne and he will be running an ultra-marathon in Frisco, Missouri on April 27. He needs encouragement to complete this grueling 31.06 mile (50K) run.

You can help Mr. Graber be a "Rock Star" and support this year's auction "Lausanne Rocks!" The form below will help people sign up so they can support him by giving one dollar or more per mile. For example, if you sponsor $1 per mile, $31 will benefit the auction!

Celebrate Earth Day at Shelby Farms

Earth Day is coming up on April 22, and you can celebrate with Shelby Farms.

They are hosting a Down to Earth Festival at Shelby Farms. It will be Saturday, April 20, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The 2013 Down to Earth Festival will feature live music (lineup listed below), kids’ adventure and art activities, green vendors, local artisans and crafters, a petting zoo, food trucks and more. Tens of thousands of Mid-Southerners will celebrate Shelby Farms Park + Shelby Farms Greenline’s central role in a more sustainable community. 

In the Adventure Zone, kids can experience different types of outdoor play:  archery, rock climbing, bouncing around in giant inflatables. For kids that want to dig into fun, the Evergreen Packaging Eco Depot offers seed planting, eco arts and crafts using repurposed and recycled materials, an outdoor mural and more!

International children's book author visits Memphis

International award winning children's book author and former Memphian, Kelly Fischer, is in town for several book signings.

Fischer grew up in Memphis. She moved to Switzerland to attend school and ended up getting married.

Fischer's four children are her inspiration for her entertaining and educational books.

You can meet Fischer Thursday at The Knowledge Tree in Germantown between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m., and on Saturday at the Summer Avenue store between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

Youth Ministry Benefit Concert A Live Music Event

It is the second Annual Youth Ministry Benefit Concert featuring John Angotti, Valerian and special guests St. Francis of Assisi Lifeteen Choir and Jacob McLemore.

Join in on Friday April 19, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. at 360 Bray Station Road in Collierville inside the Incarnation Catholic School Gymnasium.

Tickets are $10 for adults $5 for students.

All proceeds benefit Incarnation's Youth Ministry and it's sponsored by Joyful Noise DJs.

Permission granted to “KICK BUTTS”!

The Shelby County Health Department (SCHD), in collaboration with other local organizations, will encourage youth to take a stand against big tobacco companies and educate their peers about the importance of not smoking on Kick Butts Day, Wednesday, March 20.

Kick Butts Day is a national day of activism which empowers youth to stand out, speak up and seize control against big tobacco companies. Health officials want to raise awareness of the tobacco problem, encourage youth to stay tobacco-free and urge strong action to protect kids from tobacco.

Representatives from the health department will be at the following locations on Wednesday, March 20, to distribute information and tips on smoking cessation:
