Farmington kids help homeless animals

The first graders at Farmington Elementary will welcome some fuzzy visitors to their classrooms this week. Here's the information on a special program from Shelby County Schools:

It’s hard to find many things that make a first grader smile more than a fluffy kitten or puppy. Well, this week at Farmington Elementary, first grade classrooms are sure to be full of smiles, as the kids will have a chance to cuddle up with some furry guests from the Germantown Animal Shelter.

The first grade students have been reading stories about animals in class the first few weeks of school, so the visit will help bring some of those tales to life. Plus, the kids will be making a donation to the shelter.

The classroom visits will be taking place throughout the day on Friday, August 27.

Dogs already have a higher normal body temperature than humans of around 101.5°F. Unlike people, dogs have very limited sweat glands located in the pads of their paws. These glands can not sufficiently cool the dog off, which is why they also pant.
