Memphian Kris Thomas set to sing at Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals

Fresh off making into the Top 10 on NBC's The Voice, Kris Thomas will be singing the National Anthem when the Memphis Grizzlies host the San Antonio Spurs for Game 3 Saturday. He confirmed the news to Action News 5 Friday morning. Tipoff for Game 3 is set for 8pm Saturday May 25th

Shelby Farms park welcomes two baby buffalo

Shelby Farms park welcomes two baby buffalo

Shelby Farms park is now home to two baby buffalo.

The park released information and a photo on their social media sites about the babies arriving this week.

Park officials said they are healthy and full of energy. The park also promised to share plenty of new pictures in the coming days.

The Shelby County Health Department (SCHD), in collaboration with other local organizations, will encourage youth to take a stand against big tobacco companies and educate their peers about the importance of not smoking on Kick Butts Day, Wednesday, March 20.

Kick Butts Day is a national day of activism which empowers youth to stand out, speak up and seize control against big tobacco companies. Health officials want to raise awareness of the tobacco problem, encourage youth to stay tobacco-free and urge strong action to protect kids from tobacco.

Representatives from the health department will be at the following locations on Wednesday, March 20, to distribute information and tips on smoking cessation:

• Benjamin Hooks Library
3030 Poplar Ave.
10 a.m. to noon

• University of Memphis-University Center
499 University
1 p.m.

Eat wings, raise funds for Shelby Farms Park

Stop by Buffalo Wild Wings on Wednesday, Feb. 6 to help raise funds for Shelby Farms Park.

Participating locations will donate 10 percent of the day’s proceeds to Shelby Farms Park Conservancy. When you order, just let your server know that you want to support the park.

The Shelby Farms Park Conservancy is the nonprofit organization that manages and operates Shelby Farms Park and the Shelby Farms Greenline.

Adult Greek Language Class begins tonight

The dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. comes alive in an adult Greek class that begins on his national holiday today.

Have you ever thought of learning the Greek language and some Greek culture as well? You have a chance to tonight at the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Memphis. Retired Priest Father Nicholas Vieron is beginning his Adult Greek tonight in the church hall at Sam Cooper and Highland in Memphis.

Father Vieron has been teaching his adult greek class for 40 years and always begins on Martin Luther King Day. Vieron is one of a few white ministers left from the 1968 struggle who manifested efforts for social justice led by the late Rabbi James Wax.

It's a 14 week course that meets once a week at the church
