Road work still tying up traffic on Poplar | Transportation
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) Poplar Avenue widening project continues to impact Germantown traffic. Crews are working this week to remove old traffic signal poles at intersections in the construction area. Germantown Police will be on hand to assist with traffic control.
Removal of the old poles will allow the road widening work to progress at the intersections. Paving on Poplar between Germantown Road and West Street is anticipated to be complete within two weeks, weather depending. Work is expected to continue at least into the fall. Business along the construction route are open and continue to be accessible from Poplar Avenue.
TDOT contracted with Madden Phillips Construction to widen Poplar Avenue to three lanes in each direction between Miller Farms Road and Dogwood Road. In addition, double left turn lanes will be added where Poplar Avenue intersects with Germantown Road and at West Street. The entire length of the project will be milled and repaved. The $4.9 million project is being completed and fully funded by TDOT.
All questions regarding this project should be directed to TDOT at 901-946-9821.
