Many runners have saved the date every fall for the past 20 years, but this year Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure participants will be saving some details differently.

In the past, people in the Mid-South and beyond have gathered in Germantown's Shops of Saddlecreek for the Race for the Cure as a way to create awareness and provide funding for breast cancer research.

The organization announced Wednesday that they would be relocating the event to Carriage Crossing in Collierville.

Memphis-MidSouth affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure executive director Elaine Hare said the group reaches out to 14 counties in Tennessee, and seven counties in Mississippi.

With the eventual completion and connection of the 385 loop, Hare said it will be easier for community members to get to the race in Collierville.

"The way we raise the majority of our funding is through the race. Carriage Crossing offered us a deal... And it was fabulous," said Hare explaining the organization's decision to move the event.

Since the group's inception in 1992, Komen Memphis-MidSouth has granted more than $7.6 million in their mission to eradicate breast cancer through education, screening and treatment in the MidSouth.

"We're excited about the opportunity, and giving more," said Hare.
